Aunt Mid’s Produce Co. is denying that its lettuce was the source of an e. coli outbreak that sickened some three dozen Michiganders.

The Detroit company is basing its defense against a lawsuit on Michigan Agriculture Department findings that say the lettuce was clean. However, a statement for the department says that their tests were based on lettuce that was outside of the outbreak’s time frame.

A spokesman for the company also claims that all tests of its equipment came back negative for the bacteria.
