PEPPERS A PERENNIAL PRODUCE PROBLEM

Even though the FDA acted like they were completely surprised that peppers could have been a source of this summer’s salmonella outbreak, their records reveal several times in the past few months their border inspectors refused shipments of peppers coming from Mexico.

FDA lead investigator David Acheson explains on NPR how the FDA didn’t exactly get it wrong in their salmonella search, pinpointing tomatoes first, and now investigating jalapenos. He maintains the tomatoes were guilty, but now all of the suspect crop has been either eaten or destroyed.
