Amarillo Health Department officials have concluded that the salmonella poisonings linked to an Amarillo IHOP were caused by the restaurant’s practice of keeping the syrup bottles in hot water to keep the syrup warm and smooth-flowing. There have been 20 cases of salmonella reported so far that are related to an IHOP restaurant in Amarillo. Six more are pending. The restaurant is on an interstate, though, so no telling how many other cases are heading on down the highway.
The restaurant is closed pending an investigation and a very good scrubbing.

SALMONELLA OUTBREAK DECLARED OVER

The largest outbreak of food poisoning in a decade is officially over, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The outbreak of salmonella, which the FDA still attributes partially to tomatoes early on and then to serrano and jalapeno peppers grown in Mexico and processed in Texas, affected more that 1440 people.

No less than six sushi restaurants in Houston are serving fish with levels of mercury higher than federal mandates, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The toxicologist who did the study said that even though he is a connoisseur of sushi, after this, he’ll never have raw tuna again.
